Here's a quick timeline of this band. Originally, Jonathan Wolle started writing songs in 2021, recording three ill-fated attempts at using GarageBand that summer. He regrouped, took those three songs down and tried again next summer with better results, the majority of which ended up on That Was Then, Sonic Dopamine's debut album. Wolle linked up with ace drummer Gavin Chinchar, practicing with him starting in fall of 2021, and their musical telepathy grew from there. They began recording together in the summer of 2023 and produced a sophomore album, This Was Now. 2024 rolled around and the duo became a trio after finding multi-talented bassist Michael (Batman) Castelli. The newly energized Sonic Dopamine played six shows together prior to graduating, but managed to find time to record 11 songs together before going their separate ways (for now).
Many bands can be heard within Sonic Dopamine's music, but Wolle cites Green Day, Oasis and The Strokes as the bands that he first became completely obsessed with over the course of his lifespan. Since then he's broadened his horizons to an eclectic mix of artists and genres, from The Jam to Rush to OutKast. Chinchar's drum influence primarily resides in metal, country and pop, from Slipknot to System of a Down and even Milky Chance.
Rock n Roll. The band's first two projects, 2023's 'That Was Then' and 2024's 'This Was Now', were the sound of a band finding its footing (and its bassist). Album number three is straightforward, nasty rock n roll. Aerosmith, Guns N Roses, The Replacements and Motorhead influences abound.
